Compton rapper YG (born: Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson) had his 2018 robbery charges dismissed after settling out of court with the alleged victim for an undisclosed sum. According to Rolling Stone, the trial was set to begin on May 16; TMZ reports that the alleged victim was no longer cooperating with prosecutors in the criminal case. Pitchfork has reached out to the Clark County District Attorney’s office for comment.
In a statement to Pitchfork, YG’s lawyer Joe Tacopina said: “This was the only decision consistent with justice. It was a case that never should have been brought in the first place but at the end of the day YG has been cleared and can focus on his art.”
YG was first sued in June 2018 by a man claiming he was assaulted by YG’s security after approaching him at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino Las Vegas to ask for a picture. The man accused the rapper of stealing his gold chain and diamond-laced pendant, and sought $250,000 in damages. He was arrested on the felony robbery charge a month later and released on $20,000 bond. YG maintains he never stole the jewelry.
