The project experiments with the South African dance genre amapiano on four new tracks.
“These four tracks carry rhythm and melodies that accompany you everywhere regardless of the occasion,” Yemi Alade said. “I just wrapped up my 4 USA/Europe tour and I decided to end the year on a high with a playlist gift from me to you. This EP will certainly set the perfect mood and I assure you won’t need to skip a beat.”
On the EP, Yemi Alade mesmerises with melody on the gospel-inspired song titled ‘Mind Ova Mata (Amazing Grace)’, while ‘EFCC’ is party-leaning track. ‘Ladies (Get Up)’ is a cocktail of genres such as Afrobeats, dance, amapiano, hip hop and pop, whereas ‘Ogini’ advocates enjoying the moment.
Yemi Alade’s 2023 releases also include ‘Lipeka’, ‘Fear Love’, ‘Fake Friends (Iró Òre)’, ‘Pounds & Dollars’, ‘Baddie’, ‘Jo Jo’ and ‘Bright Future’. Her collections include King of Queens (2014), Mama Africa – The Diary of an African Woman (2016), Mama Afrique EP (2017), Black Magic & Deluxe Version (2017), Woman of Steel (2019), Empress (2020), Queendoncom (2021) and African Baddie (2022).
A UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, Yemi Alade clinched the Best Female Act award at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) in both 2015 and 2016. Her notable international collaborations include a feature on Beyoncé’s compilation album, The Lion King: The Gift, on the track ‘Don’t Jealous Me.’
