Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wants to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers attacking midfielder Adama Traore this summer, according to The Telegraph.
The German joined the Blues in January and has inspired the side to a top-four finish, an FA Cup final and a Champions League trophy.
Tuchel is now looking to make quality additions to his squad ahead of next season in order to challenge for the Premier League title, and Traore has emerged as a surprise target.
While the Chelsea boss is delighted with the form of Reece James, he wants to add competition to the right side of defence and believes the Wolves star could offer an attacking threat at wing-back.
Traore excelled in the position under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, and is also able to play on the opposite wing, behind the striker and as one.
While James has established himself as an England international as a result of his fine form both defensively and going forward, the Wolves star brings something different to the table.
Traore’s electric pace, unrivalled strength, ability to beat his marker and provide eye-catching crosses into the box have set him apart from his peers, and Chelsea could do with those qualities in next term’s title bid and Champions League defence.
At 25, the Spain international is not at his peak yet and could become a better finisher under Tuchel’s tutelage.
The Wolves star scored twice and assisted twice in 37 Premier League games in 2020-21, a decline in front of goal given the four goals and nine assists he bagged in 37 games last term.
The Midlands outfit are in talks with Traore over a new deal with his current contract expiring in 2023.
However, a juicy bid from Chelsea and mouthwatering personal terms for a player who craves Champions League football could see a transfer work out this summer.
In other news, Wolves star reportedly on the radar of Manchester United.
