Wolfgang Van Halen meets up with Michael Anthony for “first time in 20 years”

Wolfgang Van Halen meets up with Michael Anthony for "first time in 20 years"

Wolfgang Van Halen and Michael Anthony met up for the first time in 20 years backstage at a Mammoth WVH show on Friday night (December 8th) in Las Vegas.

The two Van Halen bassists hugged it out at Mammoth’s show at House of Blues, taking a couple photos together that Wolfgang later posted on social media.

Shared Wolfgang in a caption via Facebook: “Ran into an old friend at the @mammothwvh show in Vegas tonight. (Love ya, Mikey)”

Anthony also took to Instagram to share footage of Mammoth’s set and a backstage photo: “Went to see Mammoth WVH last night here in Vegas, and they threw it down! Love ya Wolf, so great to see ya! (Proud of you brother!!)”

When asked by a fan in the comments how long it had been since he’d last seen Wolfgang, Anthony replied in the comments: “First time in 20 years.”

Wolfgang took over for Anthony as the bassist of Van Halen following the latter’s exit in 2006, with Anthony going on to play with Sammy Hagar. While there’s been plenty of feuding in the Van Halen camp over the years, there never seemed to be bad blood between Wolfgang and Anthony.

Just prior to the meet up, Wolfgang told New York’s Q104.3 [via Blabbermouth] that he was going to see Anthony in Vegas and was  “stoked to give him a hug.” He also said he was “stoked” on Hagar and Anthony’s upcoming tour with Joe Satriani and Jason Bonham, which will feature a setlist of Van Halen songs (pick up tickets here).

In other heartwarming Van Halen news, Hagar recently invited David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen to appear onstage during the aforementioned tour. Roth replied in kind, opening the door for the possibility of Van Halen-related reunions and collaborations.

Meanwhile, Mammoth WVH will also be on the road for much of early 2024, with a US tour set to kick off in February. Get tickets to their upcoming gigs here.
