The mystery and magic of the tarot inspired Dior‘s spring/summer 2021 haute couture collection. Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri was drawn to tarot cards as a way to access the magic realm, explore the unknown, and reconnect with the soul of the world.
The complete collection, titled “Le Château du Tarot” or “The Tarot Castle,” features gowns, pearl jewellery and hair accessories, shoes, and separates inspired by characters of the Visconti-Sforza tarot deck — one of the oldest surviving tarot decks in recorded history, dating back to 15th century Milan, Italy.
For spring/summer 2021, Dior continues with its signature grey organza gowns and adds bodices covered in decadent illustrations by artist Pietro Ruffo. On-trend empire-waist silhouettes (similar to that of Bridgerton) are presented alongside papal cape coats, the brand’s Bar jacket in black velvet, and androgynous separates covered in rich hand-painted embroidery.
