Disney has now greenlit a live-action tv series reboot for Zorro, and Wilmer Valderrama is set to play the titular hero.
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, the media giant intends to bring the legendary Latino hero back via a “telenovela style” series under Disney Branded Television, with former Disney Channel president Gary Marsh acting as producer alongside Valderrama himself. Zorro Productions’ John Gertz will also return to the franchise as executive producer following his work on both The Mask of Zorro and The Legend of Zorro.
“Growing up, Zorro was the one character that made me, as a Latino, feel like I could be a hero,” Valderrama said in a statement. “As an adult and a storyteller, I have a responsibility in the stories that I help bring to life. To partner with Gary and Disney to bring Zorro back into the family after 60 years and be a part of the legacy for other children to know they too can be the heroes of their own stories is a dream come true.”
There’s currently no release date just yet for the Zorro tv series reboot, so fans of the hero should stay tuned for more updates to come.
