Who is Adam Himebauch?

For Frank, it was in a dentist waiting room where he saw a reproduction of one of Himebauch’s early prints. Adam Himebauch, aka Adam Lucas, aka Hanksy, is a man of many personas. Part street art troll, part visionary, Himebauch has floated from one alias to the next, always carrying a sense of humor and genuine fascination in the people who he aims to replicate and the art that, according to him, can be found in virtually anything. Within each, Himebauch comments on a number of prevalent themes today — from power dynamics and identity, ownership and presence, to assumptions, expectations, along with time and the reclaiming of space.

In anticipation of an upcoming “book” with TASCHEN and a remote exhibition at “The NYC Museum of Contemporary Art” this November, there is a new documentary titled BEFORE & BACK: Adam Himebauch — showcasing the artist’s backstory from the man himself and those who know him best.
