HBO‘s Emmy-winning series The White Lotus has officially been renewed for a third season.
The news comes as the Mike White-led series is in the midst of airing its second season, having released three of its total seven episodes so far. Similar to previous iterations, the third installment will follow a new group of guests at a new White Lotus resort. The first season took place in Hawaii, and the second installment is set in Sicily. The location for the third season, however, has not yet been disclosed.
“Reflecting on The White Lotus humble, run-and-gun origin as a contained pandemic production, it’s impossible not to be awestruck by how Mike orchestrated one of the buzziest and most critically acclaimed shows,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of HBO drama series and films. “And yet, he’s only continued to reach new heights in season 2, which is the ultimate testament to Mike’s raw, unparalleled vision. His courage to explore the uncharted waters of the human psyche, paired with his signature irreverent humor and buoyant directing style, have us all dreaming of more vacation days at the resort we’ve come to adore. We couldn’t be more thrilled to get the chance to collaborate on a third season together.”
The first season, which debuted in July of last year, earned 20 Emmy nominations and 10 wins, including the title of best limited or anthology series. Additionally, Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett took home trophies in the best supporting actress and actor categories, respectively.
Notably, Coolidge is the only cast member to appear in both seasons. For season two, the cast includes Aubrey Plaza, F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli, Adam DiMarco, Theo James, Meghann Fahy, Haley Lu Richardson and Will Sharpe.
Watch season two of The White Lotus on HBO on Sunday evenings.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Quentin Tarantino says the current film era is the “worst in history.”
