The first trailer for A24‘s upcoming comedy movie Y2K has been released. The film stars Rachel Zegler, Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison and Alicia Silverstone with Kyle Mooney writing and directing.

Y2K focuses on the turn of the millennium with a high school New Year’s Eve party as its setting. The trailer shows this party go wrong with chaos ensuing when the clock strikes midnight. The Y2k bug, a real computer flaw that turned out to cause mild issues, causes a full apocalyptic tech meltdown in the film.

Once the power is out, the wacky 2000s tech begins to murder the teens in a creative fashion with a Barbie toy Jeep lighting one teen on fire while a Tamagotchi kills another. The core group then leaves the house party to discover the world is on fire and tech has taken over.

From there the trailer shows flashes of the adventure to come filled with wacky fights, tech mega bosses and tons of nostalgia. Mooney appears towards the end of the trailer as he plays a stoner who encounters the teens. The trailer is set to the 90s classic song Tubthumping by Chumbawamba which is remarked on at the end.

Y2K comes out on December 6 and you can watch the trailer above.
