Announced at the Gundam Conference Winter 2024 event yesterday, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, the newest anime for the popular mecha franchise is confirmed for a 2025 release.
Co-produced by SUNRISE and Hideaki Anno’s team at studio khara, the anime presents a refreshing aesthetic and vibrant animation style. It will be directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, an industry veteran known for helming the cult-fave FLCL anime.
After proving himself with Bungo Stray Dogs in addition to his involvement in the final Evangelion movies, Yoji Enokido is in charge of the series’ composition and joins Anno as the main scribes. Ikuto Yamashita, the man behind Evangelion’s legendary mecha designs, is credited as the mechanical designer for the new Gundam series, bringing a fresh approach to the mobile suits’ extraterrestrial appeal. Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space. When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.
Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX will first premiere in Japan on January 17, where it’ll be available to view in theaters across the country as a re-edited version title comprised of some of the episodes.
