MAX has released the official trailer for the upcoming and highly-anticipated Batman spin-off series, The Penguin. The series, starring Colin Farrell is slated to arrive this fall.
Those who attended Comic-Con this past weekend saw Gotham City return for DC‘s panel. Farrell joined the panel via Zoom, and was joined by director Matt Reeves as well as co-stars Cristin Milioti and Rhenzy Feliz and makeup designer Mike Marino. Reeves directed The Batman starring Robert Pattinson and is set to be working on its sequel.
Sharing the new trailer, Farrell’s Penguin is at the center of Gotham’s crime scenes, shooting, stabbing and even dumping bodies. Aiming to gain control of the crime streets of Gotham Penguin finds himself entangled in a world of drugs at his Iceberg Lounge club. The trailer sees Sofia Falcone, played by Milioti, released from Arkham Asylum. Sofia is the daughter of late crime boss Carmine Falcone and is ready to gain control of Gotham, taking it away from Penguin. Penguin can be heard saying in the trailer, “The world ain’t set up for the honest man to succeed. America is a hustle.” For the series, Farrell had to endure hours of prosthetic designs and transformation. Marino, who was in charge of the designs, said that the inspiration behind Farrell’s Penguin was Harvey Weinstein and injured birds. The series continues to follow Penguin, aka Oz Cobb, as he expands his reach as the crime lord of Gotham City.
The Penguin hits HBO on September 19 for a limited series run of eight episodes. The series will see Farrell reprise his role from Reeves’ The Batman. Watch the trailer above.
