A Minecraft Movie will be hitting theaters sometime next year. Ahead of then, Warner Bros. has offered a preview of the live-action adaptation of the best-selling Minecraft video game.
In the flick, Jason Momoa stars as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison alongside friends Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks). The day-to-day struggles of the real world don’t seem so difficult, however, when they’re unexpectedly transported to the blocky Overworld.
On a quest to get back home, they fall into a fantastical adventure, joined by Jack Black as the expert crafter Steve.
Directing A Minecraft Movie is Jared Hess, known for his work on Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, the latter of which also starred Black.
Some viewers of the trailer were taken aback by the movie’s visuals, particularly the eerie animals that populate Overworld.
