Tonight’s episode of The Masked Singer was the season seven finale. During the episode, the Firefly took home the top prize and was revealed to be Teyana Taylor, the R&B singer signed to Kanye West’s label G.O.O.D. Music. Watch her unmasking below.
When asked why she agreed to be on The Masked Singer, Taylor implied that she wanted to be able to perform for fun without the pressure of fame. “I was like, this would be something really nice to do and just be able to sing again,” she explained. “It would be fun again and there’s no judgement. Nobody knows who’s behind the mask. You just get to sing your heart out.”
Other musical contestants this season included En Vogue as Queen Cobras, Shaggy as Space Bunny, and Jennifer Holliday as Miss Teddy. Earlier in season seven, Rudy Giuliani was unmasked as Jack in the Box in a particularly controversial episode that led to panelist Ken Jeong leaving the stage in protest.
Taylor recently announced an extended run of what she’s calling her farewell tour. The Last Rose Petal 2… Farewell Tour takes place in cities across North America this summer that she missed on her fall 2021 tour of the same name.
According to a representative, no new music is planned from Taylor going forward. Her last album, The Album, arrived in 2020. Taylor performed with Normani at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards last September and, earlier this month, she appeared at the 2022 Met Gala.
