Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s addictive track “Murder on the Dancefloor” was revived over the past few months after appearing in the closing scenes of Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn. Originally released in 2001, the song appeared on Ellis-Bextor’s debut studio album, Read My Lips.
The single was popular upon its release and became the singer’s biggest hit of her career but received hundreds of millions more following Saltburn, which led to Ellis-Bextor making her US television debut to perform the track on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Her performance was reminiscent of the disco aesthetic of Ellis-Bextor’s early work. The singer performed with instrumentals by Fallon’s backing band, The Roots.
Later this year, Ellis-Bextor will perform his first-ever concert in New York, taking over Webster Hall on June 6.
