Parquet Courts channel the Animals as a punk band on their new song “Homo Sapien.”

Off their upcoming Sympathy for Life, out October 22, “Homo Sapien” shoots off like a bullet, as lead singer Andrew Savage gives a near monotone, humor-filled rant on human evolution. “The spice we died to trade / The gun that we used to say / Stand straight up and down / Speaking intelligently.”

The video features bassist Sean Yeaton looking like a Founding Father in a powdered wig and an embroidered suit.

Today, the band is presenting Feel Free: Sympathy for Life, Visualized, a one-night livestream featuring the upcoming record’s 11 tracks along with 11 visual art pieces from around the world. The ticketed event will allow viewers to experience the album as a film, and tickets are still available.

“Homo Sapien” is available on streaming platforms, along with two other newly released tracks “Black Widow Spider” and “Walking at a Downtown Pace.” Sympathy for Life follows the band’s 2018 Wide Awake!, closing an almost three-year gap since the last Parquet Courts record.
