Netflix has dropped off the official trailer for its upcoming end-of-the-world comedy Don’t Look Up, helmed by renowned director Adam McKay, whose past projects include Vice, The Big Short, Step Brothers, the Anchorman movies and more. The forthcoming film features a star-studded cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, Kid Cudi, Jonah Hill, Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, Meryl Streep, Matthew Perry and more.
In the film, DiCaprio and Lawrence play astronomers who must leak information about a destructive, giant comet heading towards Earth that is capable of destroying the entire planet. Meanwhile, Streep, who plays the President of the United States, and Hill, who assumes the role of her Chief of Staff, are reluctant to believe the outlandish news.
“It’s definitely not as dark as ‘Vice,’” McKay said of the film during an episode of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast earlier this year. “‘Vice,’ I’d say, really probably ended up being a drama with some comedy. But ‘Big Short,’ still, even though there’s drama in it – I would say [‘Don’t Look Up’] is a tad more of a comedy than ‘The Big Short’…I don’t know if the Ferrell movies, because they’re so uniquely Will Ferrell – but somewhere in between ‘The Other Guys’ and ‘The Big Short,’ I’d say, is where this one lives.”
Don’t Look Up is slated to premiere in select theaters on December 10 and will become available to stream on Netflix on Christmas Eve. Watch the trailer above.
