Hulu has released the first official trailer of its upcoming 10-part docuseries on one of the NBA‘s most prominent franchises, the Los Angeles Lakers.
In a series of never-before-seen clips and interviews, the docuseries gives fans an insider look at how Dr. Jerry Buss transformed the Lakers into one of basketball’s most successful franchises. Jeanie Buss, the current Lakers president and daughter of Dr. Jerry Buss can be heard saying in the trailer, “My dad, he just wanted to make his mark,” a nod to the legacy he has built and left. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the series pulls in different perspectives ranging from various legends including Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal and even LeBron James.
In Jerry’s first year, the Lakers managed to win an NBA Championship, the first of seven more between 1982 and 2002. With this docuseries, fans are now able to dissect what happened behind closed doors and how management delt with the retirement of Magic Johnson after he became HIV-positive and the Buss family later bringing in Shaq and Kobe Bryant to revive the franchise. The series follows those who have lived through the changes, chronicling a story told from the inside. James said, “That pressure. That’s what really drives me. To wear purple and gold – that’s a different feeling.”
Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers premieres on August 15 on Hulu, with new episodes streaming weekly. Watch the trailer above.
