Watch Lando Norris Drive a McLaren P1 Made Entirely Out of LEGOs

LEGO and McLaren have joined forces for a one-of-a-kind, out-of-the-box collaboration: a McLaren P1 made out of LEGOs. With the project, the two companies wanted to test the capabilities of LEGOs on the track. While a McLaren P1 is already a powerhouse, how would a LEGO version of the car hold up when put to the test?

The car comes out of LEGO Technic, a division of the brand focusing on buildable cars with functioning wheels, axles and gearboxes. The LEGO McLaren P1 is the exact same size as the real car and was constructed out of 342,817 individual LEGOs, weighing 2689 lb (1,220 kg). 23 specialists from both brands with expertise in design, engineering and building teamed up, putting in a cumulative 8,344 hours of development.

For the demo, the brands tapped star racecar driver Lando Norris to put the car to the test with a lap around Silverstone. The car’s electric motor proved capable of rounding the track’s corners to successfully complete the lap.
