Watch Japanese Breakfast Perform “Be Sweet” and “Paprika” on SNL Season Finale

Japanese Breakfast was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this week, closing out the show’s 47th season with “Be Sweet” and “Paprika” from last year’s Jubilee. The SNL stage was lit with dozens of hanging lightbulbs for both performances. During “Paprika,” bandleader Michelle Zauner wore a tiered white dress and struck a gong wreathed in flowers. She also starred in a sketch advertising “grey adult pigtails” for “funky” older women. Natasha Lyonne hosted the episode. Watch it all go down below.

On Friday, news outlets reported that the season finale would be the last SNL appearance from Pete Davidson, who joined the cast in 2014. Davidson had previously alluded that his time on the show was nearing an end, saying, “I’m ready to hang up the jersey.” Veterans Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant, who both joined in 2012, are also reportedly leaving SNL after this season, along with Kyle Mooney, who joined the cast a year later.

After releasing Jubilee last June, Michelle Zauner released her soundtrack for the video game Sable in September. She’s also covered songs by Weezer, Yoko Ono, and Sufjan Stevens. Jubilee was nominated for a Best Alternative Music Album Grammy, and the band earned a nomination for Best New Artist. Zauner’s best-selling 2021 memoir Crying in H Mart is also being adapted into a feature-length film. The band is set to open for Florence and the Machine on a pair of Pacific Northwest dates in October.
