The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is almost here, and to keep up the suspense and momentum the Japanese marque has revealed how it makes its formidable hot sedan.
So far, we know that the 2023 Type R comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s good for 315 HP, 310 pound-feet of torque, and an expected 0-60 MPH time of around 5.5 seconds thanks to this car coming with a six-speed manual gearbox complete with rev-matching.
However, little else is known about the upcoming JDM machine. Now, we’re invited inside Honda‘s Yorii facility to see how it puts the Civic Type R together. Between shots of it racing around a track to workers assembling engine components and body parts, the video highlights every nut and bolt that goes into creating the automaker’s next flagship driver.
Robots are seen assembling pieces together too, something the narrator discusses when talking about the plant’s innovative processes. Quality is of the utmost importance, and is explained in various parts of the short film from “Body Pressing and Welding” to “Painting and Synthetic Resin.” Here, robots spray the shell of the car with a polyurethane top coat — a first for the Yorii factory. Every car is then examined by experts before being painted further in the colors exclusively available for the Type R.
From there, Honda shows how components like the engine and the Brembo brakes are incorporated into the car, all before showcasing the final finished product. Watch the story above.
