Eurovision 2021 winners Måneskin know what it takes to rock a crowd. The Italian band proved their metal mettle recently when they performed their thrashy take on Billie Eilish’s 2019 song “Bury a Friend” at Belgium’s Ronquière Festival on Saturday (Aug. 14).
The original tune — which they also played along with covers of songs by The Four Season, Harry Styles, The Killers and The Stooges the night before at the Rock For People festival in the Czech Republic — is a series of low key beats, squeaks and Eilish’s whispery vocals. In the hands of the Mån from Rome, it is transformed into a grungier, edgier rock tune with a ripping guitar solo.
“What do you want from me?/ Why don’t you run from me?/ What are you wondering?/ What do you know?/ Why aren’t you scared of me?/ Why do you care for me?/ When we all fall asleep, where do we go?” singer Damiano David growled to the audience’s whoops of delight as he worked the stage in black leather shorts and a frilly white shirt.
