After revealing the game with a CGI trailer back in December last year, Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive have now followed up with their first developer update trailer of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 over at Games Workshop‘s Warhammer Skulls event. Featured above, the new clip offers fans glimpses of previously unreleased footage and screenshots of the game’s various environments, highlighting iconic machines of war and Imperial emblems such as the Thunderhawk Gunship that we saw Captain Titus ride into battle on back in the announcement trailer and a massive statue of an ancient Ultramarine.
While little is known about the game’s main plot for now, players can expect Space Marine 2 to continue from the original 2011 title, with Titus returning to battle after his dealings with the Inquisition and Black Templars.
Fortunately for fans of Games Workshop’s grimdark franchise, Saber Interactive seems to be focusing on staying true to the lore as well, hoping to create a true Space Marine experience for players while expanding on Titus’ storyline. “We didn’t just want to create any third-person shooter,” said Saber’s creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick. “We wanted to create a game that embodied the galactic warfare that you’ve come to know from this franchise. It is a passion piece for all of the people working at Saber. These are people who’ve read the novels for years, who’ve played the games, and so nobody has higher expectations than us.”
Unfortunately, there’s still no official release date yet for Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2, so fans of the epic franchise should definitely stay tuned for more updates to come.
