Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech” Is Now on View at ICA Boston

Virgil Abloh‘s meteoric career is now on view at the ICA Boston. The third installment of his “Figures of Speech” exhibition, first viewed at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the latest iteration is housed in an immersive space designed by OMA*AMO, Rem Koolhaas’ architecture firm.

Upon entering the site, viewers will quickly see a giant 18-ft banner entitled, PSA (2019), prompting you to “QUESTION EVERYTHING.” Walk across the five dedicated rooms filled with 70 artworks on display to find a giant iteration of the YEEZUS album artwork, graphic design, and works across music and furniture, to various fashion collections from Off-White™ and his post as artistic director of Louis Vuitton‘s Menswear.

The cross-disciplinary offerings on view show how Abloh’s interests across a number of disparate disciplines, such as music, high fashion, and sneakers, have reinvigorated each of those sectors in resounding ways. Additionally, Abloh’s unconventional path has shown as a beacon of inspiration to the many creative polymaths who defy categorization.

“Virgil Abloh: Figures of Speech” is organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and is on view at the ICA Boston until September 26.

Elsewhere, Ed Ruscha pays homage to the letter x in a new exhibition called “Dedicated Stone.”
