Vince Staples and Mustard have joined forces on a new single, “Magic,” which arrives as the first track off of Staples’ upcoming record Ramona Park Broke My Heart.
The album, which is slated to debut in April, will land as the follow-up to the top-shelf rapper’s self-titled album that was released last year. In a press release, Staples explains that “Magic” provides ample context for the overarching tone of Ramona Park.
“I think it’ll put the listener in a good state of mind,” he said. “The mood of it defines the project.”
“It’s symbolic of home,” he added of the project’s title, which pays homage to his hometown neighborhood of Ramona Park in Long Beach. “And everyone has a home. Even though it’s very personal to me, everyone can relate to it. That’s why I thought it would work for this chapter.”
Additionally, the Long Beach rapper explains that Ramona Park is directly correlated to his 2021 record, as both projects were created “at the same time.”
“I was in a similar state of mind,” he said. “I’m still working through things and the questions that life poses. This album will make even more sense if you heard the previous one.”
“This one has more answers,” he added.
