MIMA in Brussels is hosting a solo exhibition by Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto, known as Vhils. Renowned for his unique technique of removing surface layers from walls and other media, Vhils creates art that reflects on identity, the interplay between people and their environment, and contemporary urban life. Since 2005, he has exhibited his work in over 30 countries.
Titled Multitude: Carving Memories in the Digital Age, the exhibition explores our relationship with cities, featuring wall carvings, billboards, cityscapes, videos, and installations spread across MIMA’s ground, first, and second floors. This collection offers insights into Vhils’ approach to urban life and human identity.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Vhils has created a new permanent public wall in central Brussels, set to be inaugurated on June 26th. This piece extends the exhibition’s themes into the urban landscape. Multitude: Carving Memories in the Digital Age will be on view at MIMA from June 28 until January 5, 2025. A press preview is scheduled for June 26.
