Universal Pictures Is Developing a Biopic About Anthony Kiedis

Anthony Kiedis will be the focus of a new biopic from Universal Pictures.

According to Deadline, the studio optioned the rights to the Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman’s memoir, Scar Tissue. Brian Grazer, who executive produced the likes of Empire and Wu-Tang: An American Saga, will produce alongside Guy Oseary and Kiedis. More information such as the cast and release date are yet to be announced.

Scar Tissue, a New York Times bestseller, was released in 2004 and followed Kiedes’ life from his birth in 1962 up until the release of the book. The memoir narrated the frontman’s struggles with drug addiction, which was introduced by his ex-drug dealer father when he was only 11 years old, and its effects on him as Red Hot Chili Peppers grew. It also explained the downward spiral he experienced upon the drug overdose of his friend and RCHP’s founding guitarist Hillel Slovak, his multiple attempts to get clean, and his questionable sexual experience that led to the creation of “Catholic School Girls Rule.”

Stay tuned for a trailer and release date.
