Universal Music Group Partners With Curio for Future NFT Projects

Universal Music Group and NFT platform Curio will partner together on future NFT projects from UMG’s labels, subsidiaries and artists worldwide, the companies announced Thursday (Feb. 17). Curio, which has released over 75,000 NFTs since last February, will launch its first project through the agreement with Capitol Records artist Calum Scott in March.

“With Curio, our labels will have a secure and dedicated platform to host these premium projects and provide new opportunities for collectors and fans from around the world to acquire unique pieces, inspired by their favorite artists and labels,” said Michael Nash, UMG executive vp digital strategy, in a statement. “UMG is focused on developing new opportunities in this space that place our artists and labels at the forefront, working to ensure that the evolution of Web3 provides exciting new avenues for their creativity.”

The startup is led by co-founder and co-CEO Ben Arnon, formerly of UMG, and features longtime music industry veterans in key roles. Music manger Dan Dymtrow is the company’s head of music & influencer NFT global partnerships and Marc Geiger, the former global head of music at William Morris Endeavor, serves as an advisor — and investor — to Curio.

“Curio is thrilled to be partnered with UMG in the NFT and Web3 space,” added Arnon. “UMG has a huge catalog with unlimited opportunity to deliver value to fans across the globe. Their brands and labels are historic and iconic. And the digital innovation and Web3 expertise amongst their executives is unparalleled.”

The partnership is the latest move by UMG to beef up its Web3 strategy. The company struck a partnership with avatar startup Genies to allow its artists to create a digital representation of themselves back in December.
