UK Mandate Will Officially Require Every New Home To Have EV Chargers Starting 2022

The U.K. government has officially announced that electric vehicle charging stations will be required for all new businesses and new homes starting in 2022. The latest mandate helps to push forward the EV agenda in the country by adding approximately 145,000 extra charging points per year. As more and more European countries are looking towards moving their communities towards reducing fossil fuel, the U.K. is taking one of its first major steps towards the goal.

According to the government press release, “This will mean people can buy new properties already ready for an electric vehicle future while ensuring charge points are readily available at new shops and workplaces across the U.K. — making it as easy as refueling petrol or diesel car today.”

The U.K. government has recently funded the installation of more than 250,000 charging points across the nation. The latest notice would increase that number by over 50% in the first year alone. Large-scale renovations to accommodate over 10 parking spaces with charging stations have also been applied.

The new law helps the U.K. work towards its 2030 goal to completely ban fossil-fuel car sales. Now, approximately 10 years prior to the set year, the government hopes to make early headway having previously already spent approximately $660 million USD on constructing EV charging infrastructures across the U.K.
