Tyler, the Creator has once again linked up with Nardwuar for a light-hearted interview. The rapper, who just wrapped up his Call Me If You Get Lost tour, has been interviewed by Nardwuar four times prior.
For their fifth and latest chat in Vancouver’s Beat Street Records, Tyler perused the store and reminisced on past memories with Nardwuar and other artists in the rap industry.
While looking at a 1999 issue of The Source featuring Q-Tip on the cover, the rapper shared that the A Tribe Called Quest producer recently attended one of his shows in New York. “This is the God. The Godfather. The real Godfather, man,” Tyler said of Q-Tip.
At another point in the interview, Nardwuar presents Tyler with CD copies of DJ Drama‘s Gangsta Grillz mixtape series. The rapper broke down the importance of mixtapes allowing artists to release music while circumventing the politics of labels, noting that “rap music used to be super regional.”
“DJ Drama was the head of one of the most important mixtape series of all time that really helped shape how a lot of people make music — including me,” he added.
In all, Tyler, the Creator and Nardwuar’s conversation spanned approximately 45-minutes. Fans can watch the entire interview above now.
In other music news, HARD Summer Music Festival 2022 will feature Megan Thee Stallion, Gunna, Lil Uzi Vert and more.
