Twitter Verified Will Now Use Different Colors to Represent Companies, Governments and Individuals

Elon Musk is launching an updated version of Twitter‘s paid Verified system on December 2.

The CEO announced that Twitter Verified will now utilize different colors rather than just the traditional blue check, with gold checks representing companies, grey checks for governments and blue checks for individuals, regardless of whether they are considered celebrities. Musk added that “all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates” and that the new system is “painful, but necessary.”

Prior to its suspension, Twitter Verified allowed any user to have a blue check — usually meant for accounts that were officially used by big names — next to their name for $8 USD a month. Musk temporarily halted the service, however, when Twitter Verified users began changing their names to impersonate companies and important individuals.
