Twitter Removes Login Requirement for Viewing Tweets

Twitter’s new requirement to log in to view tweets was very short-lived, as the restriction was reverted merely days after being implemented — meaning visitors or people hitting external links can now view tweets again via web browsers.

The move shouldn’t come as a surprise though, as Elon Musk stated that the restriction was meant to be a “Temporary emergency measure,” explaining that “We were getting data pillaged so much that it was degrading service for normal users!”

While the company hasn’t officially announced an end to the restriction, the apparent relaxing of it comes as a relief to many, as it made the sharing of tweet links via third-party communication apps like Instagram, iMessage, Slack and more a miserable experience.

Other temporary restrictions set to “address extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation” include limits on post views ranging from as low as 300 per day for new unverified accounts and as high as 6,000 per day for verified accounts.

In related tech news, Meta officially launches Threads and exceeds five million sign-ups in the first few hours.
