Scaled And Icy is the followup to 2018’s Trench, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The new album features the previously-released “Shy Away,” which crowned Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart in just its third week, a speedy run the likes of which we haven’t seen in a decade.
Scaled And Icy is scheduled to drop May 21 via Fueled By Ramen, and was written and largely produced by Joseph in isolation at his home due to the pandemic over the past year, with Dun engineering the drum tracks from across the country.
The album is the product of long-distance virtual sessions and finds the duo processing their upended routines along with the prevailing emotions of 2020 – “anxiety, loneliness, boredom, and doubt,” according to a release announcing the project.
