Travis Scott made his first televised performance since the Astroworld tragedy at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards this past weekend.
The Houston rapper took the stage in all-over fuzzy apparel including a satchel, to perform his single “Mafia” in what appears to be a wintry and icy wasteland. As dry ice smoke was seen surrounding the artist and the backup singers, they seemed dressed for the occasion in their furry ensemble. As Scott transitioned from “Mafia” to his next song “Lost Forever,” his collab with James Blake and Westside Gunn, television audiences saw the screen shift from black to white.
Scott is set to release his upcoming album Utopia later this year. His performance marks his readiness to take perform once again, post-Astroworld. While the incident and his response to the tragedy was controversial, it appears that the artist wants to move forward with the release of his new music. In an interview with Charlamage Tha God, Scott spoke about the tragedy at length, “I went through something, fans went through something, people’s parents went through something. It really hurts, it hurts a community, it hurts a city. It’s just been a lot of thoughts, a lot of feelings, a lot of grieving, you know just trying to wrap my head around it.”
