Travis Scott Features on First Widely Released New Song Since 2021 Astroworld Tragedy

808 Mafia producer Southside, Future, and Travis Scott have collaborated on the new song “Hold That Heat.” It’s the first official Travis Scott single since Astroworld 2021 music festival in Houston. Police called the event a “mass casualty incident” that led to 10 people’s deaths and many injuries. Find “Hold That Heat” below.

The Texas Task Force on Concert Safety recently published its report about Astroworld. The task force cited an inconsistent permitting process across Texas and lack of event security training and communication as contributing factors to the tragedy. Weeks after the event ended, the medical examiner ruled that the 10 people died of compression asphyxia. In December, the House Oversight and Reform Committee announced an investigation of Live Nation over the promoter’s role in the tragedy. Travis Scott and Live Nation are facing multiple lawsuits.

Following the Astroworld tragedy, Scott launched the philanthropic investment endeavor and event safety initiative.  Project HEAL. “My team and I created Project HEAL to take much needed action towards supporting real solutions that make all events the safest spaces they can possibly be,” Scott wrote. “I will always honor the victims of the Astroworld tragedy who remain in my heart forever.” The project’s announcement was met with criticism from the grandparents of 9-year-old Astroworld victim Ezra Blount.

Travis Scott recently started the process of returning to the public eye, performing at afterparties and seemingly teasing a new album with billboards. The rapper’s last studio album was 2018’s Astroworld. In 2020, Scott shared multiple songs, including “The Scotts,” “The Plan,” “TKN,” and “Franchise.” Last year, he released the Baby Keem collaboration “Durag Activity,” as well as two tracks that arrived just before Astroworld: “Escape Plan” and “Mafia.” Earlier in 2022, Scott was featured on the Donda 2 song “Pablo,” but the track has not been formally released outside of Kanye West’s Stem Player.
