Toyota Unveils Souped-Up 2022 Tundra TRD Pro Truck

Following a leak that prompted Toyota to fully unveil its 2022 Tundra truck, the Japanese automotive manufacturer has just released details for its full line of trims for the truck, more specifically — the TRD Pro version.

One of the biggest upgrades is towing capacity and the updated transmission. Total towing capacity moves from 10,200 lbs to 12,000 lbs while payload increases from 1,730 lbs to 1,940 lbs. The transmission is now a 10-speed compared to the 6-speed in 2021. Power has also been improved upon as consumers can either choose from a twin-turbo 3.5L V6 (389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque) or a hybrid engine (437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque).

“Our design goal from the beginning was to create the most powerful, rugged and sophisticated looking full-size pickup that will take Tundra to a whole new level,” said Kevin Hunter, president of Toyota’s U.S. design group. “Because recreation and an outdoor lifestyle are at the core of Toyota truck identity, we set out to create a muscular, chiseled and athletic design that also looks like it could handle the toughest towing demands.”

Those looking for some serious off-roading capabilities will be interested in the TRD Pro version as it sees a 1.1-inch lift with FOX 2.5-inch suspension, electronic braking, throttle/traction control, a front grille light bar, forged 18-inch BBS off-road wheels, matte-black accents, and twin-exhaust outlets. Head over to Toyota for more info.
