Toyota to Enter 2026 Supercars Championship with Four V8-Powered GR Supras

Toyota Australia is gearing up for its debut in the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship with its iconic GR Supra. The move marks Toyota’s first entry into Australia’s premier motorsport event, extending the brand’s motorsport footprint beyond its grassroots initiatives.

Four GEN3 GR Supras will be part of the 2026 grid, with two cars run by Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU). Supercars stars Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood will also represent Toyota on the track. Toyota’s partnership with WAU underscores its commitment to entering Supercars with the best possible team.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sean Hanley described the entry as a “historic moment,” affirming the company’s long-standing interest in joining Supercars. “With the right car, the right team, and a strong partnership with the Supercars Championship, the time is definitely right.”

Notably, the GR Supra racecars will be powered by Toyota’s 5L V8 2UR-GSE engine, used in performance production cars and the 2019 Dakar-winning HiLux. Development is already underway with Toyota’s in-house design team, who are leveraging CAD and VR technologies to realize the vehicle.
