Sony‘s Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg-starring Uncharted is debuting atop the domestic holiday weekend box office with a total of $44.1 million USD.
The sum was reportedly earned between Friday and Sunday and is expected to collect $52 million USD from 4,275 North American theaters by President’s Day. It also earned $55.4 million USD from the international box office and hit $139 million USD worldwide as of writing.
“This is an excellent opening,” David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research said. “Action adventures based on video games are big movies and this weekend’s figure is nearly double the average for the genre… Budgets run high, so ‘Uncharted’ needs to connect in every market. So far, it is doing that.”
In other Tom Holland news, an extended version of Spider-Man: No Way Home is rumored to hit theaters.
