Tom Holland and Austin Butler are attached to a new race-car centric film titled American Speed. The movie was recently acquired by Amazon MGM Studios after a competitive auction.
The film is slated to sees Oppenheimer‘s Oscar-winning producer Charles Roven also attached to the film via his Atlas Entertainment banner as well as with RD Whittington and Douglas Banker. Dan Wiedenhaupt is penning the script which is slated to follow the true story of the three historically famous race card drivers known as the Whittington brothers, of which two were part of a major IMSA scandal in the 1980s. During that time, a large number of drivers were charged with financing their racing activities with drug smuggling, money laundering and tax evasion.
While both actors have not spoke about the project yet, the two have already quite the year. Holland has been linked to the next installment of his upcoming Spider-Man films and has also been announced to join Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan’s next film. As for Butler, he starred opposite Timothée Chalamet in Dune: Part Two and is currently filming Darren ARronofsky’s thriller Caught Stealing. Stay tuned for more info.
