Tom Cruise and Paramount Pictures have officially dropped the first trailer for Mission: Impossible 8. Cruise has also announcd the title of the film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning alongside the first teaser.
Originally, the upcoming film was slated to just be the Part Two to 2023’s Dead Reckoning and was previously expected to release in 2022. However, due to the pandemic and SAG-AFTRA actors strike, the date was postponed. Cruise took to Instagram earlier on Monday morning to reveal the title and poster with a caption that read, “Every choice has led to this.” Giving fans a glimpse of the action-packed adventures that await them, the trailer sees Cruise scuba dive and explore underwater wreckages as well as performing his usual stunts of flying and falling out of a biplane. The teaser reveals that Angela Bassett returns as CIA director Erika Sloane after first appearing in Fallout.
In the previous film, Cruise’s Ethan Hunt found himself in deep waters as he went up against a dangerous AI problem called The Entity that seemed to predict every one of his moves. Realizing that The Entity was stashed aboard an old Russian submarine, Ethan is tasked to find it before anyone else. The film sees Esai Morales return as Gabriel, Ethan’s past foe, in addition to Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Henry Czerny, Greg Tarzan Davis, Mariela Garriga and Indira Varma. Newcomers to the franchise include Hannah Waddingham, Janet McTeer, Holt McCallany, Katy O’Brian, Nick Offerman and Tramell Tillman. Christopher McQuarrie is back to direct and co-write with Bruce Geller and Erik Jendresen. Cruise and McQuarrie are both producers of the film.
