Tobias Pils is an Austrian artist best known for creating paintings that have been described by some as sleepwalking dances. Typically working across a monochromatic palette, Pils is showcasing a new body of work with fellow Austrian artist Gerwald Rockenschaub to the colorful backdrop of Galerie Eva Presenhuber in Zurich.
“Between Us Space” is the artist’s sixth exhibition with the gallery and presents a set of new paintings that evokes dreamlike scenes from which ghostly figures occasionally materialize. From an array of horses, solitary riders, a pregnant woman to a series of strange and mythic figures wearing masks — there always seems to be a sort of separation or distance between Pils fantastical scenes and the viewer.
As the title of the show implies, this space in turn allows the audience to focus more closely on what it is that is transpiring within the artist’s compositions and ponder our own reactions to the supernatural. “Between Us Space” is on view for the next few weeks and will conclude on May 21.
In other art news, Lee Ufan unveiled a new museum in the South of France.
