Tinder Will Enable Voluntary ID Verification for All Users

Tinder will launch ID verification globally for members in the “coming quarters,” the company announced on Monday.

Taking the recommendation of experts into consideration, the dating app will decide which documents are most appropriate for each country, local laws, and regulations under a test-and-learn approach, while ensuring the process is inclusive and “privacy-friendly.” The safety-first feature has been rolled out in Japan since 2019, where users upload documentation such as passports or licenses to verify their identities.

“We know one of the most valuable things Tinder can do to make members feel safe is to give them more confidence that their matches are authentic and more control over who they interact with. And we hope all our members worldwide will see the benefits of interacting with people who have gone through our ID verification process. We look forward to a day when as many people as possible are verified on Tinder,” said Rory Kozoll, Head of Trust & Safety Product at Tinder.
