TikTok has taken a note out of Instagram’s book with its new feature, Photo Mode. Available in the latest app update, the feature allows users to share multiple photo stills in a post, along with captions of up to 2,200 characters.
Photos are displayed in a carousel format, with one image after another. Other users can swipe through the carousel at their own pace.
The app has introduced a slew of new editing tools to accompany Photo Mode. Not only can posts be set to music, but users can also edit clips, sounds and texts. They can also add photo and video overlays for visual stacking and frame content by zooming in and out.
In a blog post announcing Photo Mode, TikTok says that its “enhanced editing tools allow [creators] to easily adjust clips, sounds, images, and text in a new editing environment, all within TikTok’s creation flow.”
Photo Mode looks a lot like Instagram’s slideshows, blurring the lines between the different social media platforms. TikTok has already introduced its own snapshot-style feature comparable to BeReal, and Instagram has its own iteration of a similar feature in the works.
