BRAD SMITH: TaylorMade Golf and Tiger Woods inked a deal to launch a new lifestyle brand named Sun Day Red. The partnership coming after Tiger Woods’s recent split with Nike here. And ultimately, thinking through some of the logo, some of the apparel that’s going to be coming forward here, there’s been a lot of hang up and a lot of discussion online at least in some of the circles that I’ve been tracking on this logo here. And if there’s any sense I will make of it, it’s that Jack Nicklaus had the golden bear, you had Greg Norman, who has the shark, and then you’ve got Tiger Woods who’s got this tiger that’s going to be going on some of the hoodies, the hats, the gloves, and anything else that can be sported around the greens and perhaps off green as well here. I think it’s a bigger deal for TaylorMade as well, making sure that in a segment where they didn’t really have any major play in terms of athletic apparel or any clothing, this allows them an immediate way into the closets of a lot of potential golfers out there.

RACHELLE AKUFFO: It’s true. And even if you look at the timing of this, when you saw some of these registered trademarks for Sun Day Red, that was back in June of 2023 in Jamaica. So you knew something was coming

A lot of speculation especially when you looked on X. Like, what is this big announcement? It had the close up of his eye.

I was like, is this some sort of you know, Apple Vision Pro mashup? Doing the most for no good reason. But the man now gets to have his own brand, sort of gets to control his own fate versus just being under Nike. He gets to really push it in the direction that he likes.

BRAD SMITH: Yeah, I mean when you go, you can do the most, honestly, at the end of the day. You’re taking a look at Nike shares right now. They’re down by about 2 and 1/4%. Broader market is slipping here on the day.

So one of the huge things I think going forward is the moisture wicking of how well this performs on course. And then just additionally, we’ll see what the sales look like for TaylorMade. We’ve been able to have the CEO on from time to time in the past, so maybe we’ll get another conversation on the books here.

But, of course, the timing of this launch, May 1, most notably is really prominently visualized on the website for Sun Day Red. So we’ll see what the fandom is that flocks into this apparel line. And it’s around the same time that you’re going to have a lot of the major tournaments taking place as well. It’ll be just after the Masters that takes place in April.

RACHELLE AKUFFO: Good timing.

BRAD SMITH: Yeah.
