There is a new clock that tells each minute of the day through an artwork sourced from the Smithsonian Open Access catalog for art. Aptly titled, Art Clock, the prototype is a user friendly service produced by Red Paper Heart in conjunction with the Smithsonian and the Cooper Hewitt Interaction Lab.
The process works by selecting an image from a seemingly endless historical catalog. Thereafter, users can adjust the angle and position of that artwork, which is then prescribed to that particular minute of the day. “Our intention is that the time people spend identifying angles will create relationships between participant and art, and help people notice and think about the compositional choices that artists make,” states Red Heart Paper.
The Art Clock is exploratory in nature, but one that is nonetheless satisfying in its effect. A novel way to curate art (literally) to each minute of the day.
Elsewhere in art, Richard Heller Gallery has unveiled a star studded group show focusing on the theme of the doppelgänger.
