This 1992 Ferrari F40 Could Sell For Millions at Auction

It’s not often that a Ferrari F40 goes up for sale, let alone one from 1992 — the final production year of the formidable classic Italian supercar. Thanks to Mecum Auctions, a very clean example has been listed, leading its upcoming Kissimmee 2022 auction.

For many reasons, the F40 is without a doubt one of the most important and legendary poster children of Ferrari‘s legacy. It was the final car to be commissioned by Enzo Ferrari, and this particular example is number 19 of just 22 that were built in ’92. Furthermore, it stood up against the German’s Porsche 959 in the battle of the best supercar of its time, going onto to prove that it could be just as fun on the road as it was on the track: its true proving ground.

Everything about the F40 was race-biased, from the carbon fiber and Kevlar-reinforced central tub structure and composite body panels that were designed by Scaglietti to the twin-turbocharged, four-cam, port-injected three-liter V8 engine that produced 478 HP, a figure that may not stack up to today’s numbers, but was plenty enough power to thrill (if not scare) drivers, given the F40’s low weight of just 1,100kg.

The results were astounding for its time, hitting 0-60 MPH in 3.9 seconds, 0-100 MPH in 7.8 seconds, and 0-140 MPH in 14 seconds, before going onto a top speed of 201 MPH, which crowned it the first series-production supercar to surpass 200 MPH. This example is one of the 400 ever built and is finished in “Rosso Corsa” over a “Red/Gray” interior, albeit a very sparse one, and features mild upgrades such as a Tubi exhaust.

Mecum Auctions hasn’t stated any kind of estimate, but expect it to fetch well over $1,000,000 USD when it hits the auction block on Jan 6-16. Take a closer look at the car above, and find out more information on Mecum Auctions’ website.

In other news, Porsche has built a Vision Gran Turismo concept that showcases its future.
