Puffer coats have long been considered practical, but stylish? Thanks to a host of designer interpretations of the cosy, borderline-ugly outerwear, they’ve become something of a fashion-insider must-have. Arguably, it was last year when the puffer coat’s sartorial status really reached its peak. Socialising outdoors was considered the norm, and the likes of Bottega Veneta and Totême created very special puffer coats, the majority of which swiftly made their way to the top of many an editor’s and influencer’s wish list.
But then, we started off this year (yet again) spending a lot more time outside, and the duvet coat became essential for many of us—and not just those with budgets for the designer versions. Back in February, according to global fashion search platform Lyst, searches for “duvet coat” were “rising quickly and are currently up 34% since the start of the month.” People were also searching for “maxi down coat,” “duvet jacket” and “quilted duvet coat,” and it looks from the new-in offering at so many stores right now we’re about to hit a similar peak as the winter cold snap begins.
If you’re hunting down a puffer coat right now, then we’ve got good news. We’ve spent all week finding the best and most affordable versions on the high street, just for you.
