Make sure you come hungry, because the food lineup is no joke. Find hard-to-come-by African meals such as North African tagine, akara (bean fritters), jollof rice, injira (fermented pancake), fataya (deep fried pastry) and more.
Exhibitors will include South African eatery Ostrich & the Egg South African, La Cubana’s Cuban and Caribbean eats, Angie’s Kitchen’s Ghanaian catering and Saccha African Sugarcane’s sweet juices.
On the stage, catch DJs, live music and performances by musical resident DJ Wise King, The Melbourne African Traditional Ensemble (MATE) and KG + Passion & Purpose Dancers. Kwacha Fashions will even be hosting a fashion show in both days of the event.
Adults can browse through the market stalls to shop for crafts, clothing and art, while children enjoy the face painting and drumming classes.
“We are excited to host the African Music and Cultural Festival at the Queen Victoria Market. As a melting pot of cultures and cuisines, the Market is the perfect place to experience the vibrancy and diversity of African street foods, music, and art,” said Queen Victoria Market CEO Matt Elliott.
