Following the success of Cyberpunk Edgerunners, CD Projekt Red recently announced several new projects including a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 codenamed “Orion,” an entirely new universe named “Hadar,” and several new Witcher games including a remake of its first The Witcher (2007) game which will be developed in Unreal Engine 5, the world’s most advanced and capable real-time 3D creation tool yet.
Codenamed “Canis Majoris,” the remake was said to have entered pre-production in spring, marking the first remake of the series. CDPR will work with Polish game studio Fool’s Theory to develop the game including developers who have worked on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Thanks to the success of Netflix‘s The Witcher series, and follow-up games, the franchise has gained enough notoriety to revisit past stories for newer fans. CDPR has further revealed that its new games will likely have multiplayer components and are expected to be available for consoles.
“We want to do this right, so please be patient — it’s gonna be a while until we can share more details,” writes The Witcher team.
With the remake still a few years away, fans can expect the new Blood Origin spin-off series to premiere on Netflix this December and The Witcher 3 to arrive later this year in the meantime.
We’re thrilled to reveal that, together with @Fools_Theory, we’re working on remaking The Witcher using Unreal Engine 5 (codename: Canis Majoris)!
