What Is The Who’s Tommy About?

Based on The Who’s 1969 rock opera Tommy, the musical tells the story of Tommy Walker. As a young boy, after seeing his father kill his mother’s lover, he begins to disassociate and becomes deaf, dumb and blind to the outside world. However, an innate knack for pinball  lead to him becoming a messianic figure.

The original Broadway production premiered in 1993 and won five Tony Awards, including Best Direction, Best Choreography, and Best Original Score. It also won a Grammy Award for the Original Broadway Cast Recording.
