Abel Testafe unleashed another cut of the thumping, synth-heavy track, this time in a promo for the Tokyo Olympics track & field competition.
The new video, shared on The Weeknd’s social media accounts, is accompanied with the important detail: “8.6.21 new single.”
The Weeknd previously announced this next musical era at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards on May 23. “I just want to say the After Hours are done and the dawn is coming,” he said after winning Top Hot 100 Song presented by Rockstar for “Blinding Lights.” That win was one of 10 total for the Weeknd at the 2021 BBMAs.
2020’s After Hours ruled sales charts around the globe, and featured the hit “Blinding Lights,” which made history as the first song ever to spend a year in the Billboard Hot 100‘s top 10, and is recognized as the No. 2 most-streamed song on Spotify (with 2.42 billion plays), behind only Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You.”
